Salicylate - aspirin (Bayer, Ecotrin, Astrin)
Headaches, muscle pain, inflammation and pain from arthritis, mild anticoagulant

Serum therapeutic range: 5mg/dl
Inflammation: 15-30mg/dl

Can displace other highly protein bound drugs

If taken with acetaminophen, GI bleeding couldresult

Side effects: fastric discomfort, tinnitis, vertigo, deafness (reversible) inc bleeding

Should be taken with foods or at mealtime. Should not be taken with alcohol.
Salicylate - duflunisal(Dolobid)
Mild to moderate pain. Less toxic than aspirin.
COX-2 inhibitor - celecoxib (Celebrex)
Treat osteroarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Not indicated for clients <18yrs. Caution for clients with severe renal or liver disorders and those allergic to sulfonamides.
COX-2 inhibitor - meloxicam (Mobic)
Treat pain from osteroarthritis.
COX-2 inhibitor - nabumetone (Relafen)
Treat pain from osteroarthritis.
Paraaminophenol - acetaminophen (Tylenol, Panadol, Tempra)
Treat pain from osteroarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
NSAIDs: Propionic Acid - ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Nuprin, Medipren)
Mild to moderate muscle aches and pains. Cause some fastric distress but less than aspirin. Should be taken with food, at mealtime or with fluids.
NSAIDs: Propionic Acid - naproxen (Naprosyn, Naprelan, EC-Naprosyn, Aleve, Anaprox, Anaprox-DS)
Treatment of inflamm and pain from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, and dysmenorrhea.
NSAIDs: Propionic Acid - Ketorolac (Toradol, Acular)
Short term treatment of pain.
Methotrimeprazine HCl (Levoprome)
Moderate to severe pain. Used before and after surgery for pain and sedation.
tramadol (Ultram)
Moderate to severe pain. Contraindicated in severe alcoholism or with use of narcotics. Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, constipation, headache and anxiety may occur.
