It ended the absolute monarchy of Louis XVI. This left France without a ruler, and gave Napolean a chance to become emperor. He used his popularity to overthrow the Directory (5 man council). Then he assumed the title of Emperor of France.
Describe the philosophical contributions of three Enlightenment thinkers.
John Locke promoted the idea that people are sovereign. Montesquieu believed in seperation of powers. Voltaire believed in seperation of Church and State and the right to speak. These three thinkers helped inspire the American Revolution and America's documents. Without them, America's laws, rights, and guideline might have been significantly different.
