SENTENCE STRUCTURE

SIMPLE SENTENCE
-one independent clause with no subordinate clause
(without music, life would be dull)
COMPOUND SENTENCE
-two or more independent clauses with no subordinate clause (One arrow is easily broken, but you can't break a bundle of ten.)
COMPLEX SENTENCE
-one independent clause + one or more subordinate clauses (ex: If you scatter thorns, don't go barefoot.)
COMPOUND-COMPLEX
SENTENCE
-two (+) independent clauses and one or more subordinate clauses (ex: Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.)
PREDICATE
-consists of a verb and its objects, complements, and modifiers.
COMPOUND PREDICATE
-two (+) predicates joined by coordinating conjunction (and,but or..etc.)
RUN-ON SENTENCE
-independent clauses that have not been joined:
-with a comma and coordinating conjunction
