Metamorphic Rocks
prexisting rocks undergo a change due to heat pressure or chemical reaction. Temperatures between 100-800 degrees celcius
What are possible things that could happen
heat & pressure incease w/ depth and crust breaks down minerals and flatten mineral grains- atoms rearrange forming lerant minerals
hot fluids with in the crust can cause a chemical reaction the fluids consist of Co2 and Carbon dioxide
During metamorphism rocks texture, chemical and mineral composition may change
What are they classified by
textures
foliated
rocks mineral crystals arranged in parralel layers or bands
slate forms from Shale
Unfoliated
Marble a metamorphic rock called limestone mostly made of clacite. Def. do not have paralel lines or bands
pluton
large piece of intrusive rock that can form land masses such as a dome
