Decrease in REER_______ in rupee value |
depreciation Imagine India exports textiles to the US. Normally, 100 rupees buys 1 dollar. If inflation in India increases by 5% while it remains stable in the US, it would take 105 rupees to buy the same dollar. While the nominal exchange rate hasn't changed, the REER would decrease because Indian goods have become relatively cheaper compared to US goods. This depreciation makes Indian textiles more attractive to US buyers, potentially boosting exports. However, imported goods in India become more expensive, which could fuel inflation within the country. |
