Atelectasis:

Shrunken and airless state of part of the lung

What is atelectasis often associated with?

Infection

What does a patient with atelectasis present with?

Pain on the affected side, dyspnea, cyanosis, drop in blood pressure, tachycardia, diminished or absent breath sounds, dull or flat percussion, fever, and reduced chest excursion unaffected side.
Tidal Volume:
The amount of air that is inhaled and exhaled during NORMAL resting breathing.
RV/residual volume:

The volume of air remaining in the lungs FOLLOWING a full or MAXIMAL expiration.
