A policy of giving in to the demands of a hostile power in order to avoid conflict and maintain peace.

appeasement

A country, government, or form of government in which absolute power is often exercised by one person.

dictatorship

Media that supports the spread of ideas, information, or rumors for the purpose of helping or damaging a cause. It influences people to accept or reject a certain point of view.

propaganda

A centralized government that does not tolerate parties of differing opinion and that exercises dictatorial control over most aspects of life, including social behavior and thought. (Youth groups, schools, media, the arts).

totalitarian

A form of government in which the government is supreme and individuals have few rights. Total control rests in the hands of a few people.

oligarchy

The belief that a nation should stand alone and not get involved in the affairs /conflicts of other nations.

isolationism

A government in which power and authority rest with the people. People usually express their power through voting.

democracy

The practice of seeking extension of a nation’s control by acquiring new territory. Often this is done solely for the benefit of the larger nation.

imperialism

A governmental system usually led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing the superiority of a nation’s values, an aggressive nationalism, and often racism.
