The Crossing of the First Threshold

The moment when our hero engages in the quest and ventures into the unknown world

Our hero accepts their separation from their known world and begins a transformation

The Titans consume Dionysus' flesh but his heart is saved by Hestia and it is reborn as a god

The Road of Trials

Tests, tasks and trial begin the transformation of our hero. Many times there is failure in accomplishing a task

The transformation of the hero will sometimes result in a reluctance to return to their own world

Occasionally the hero will need to escape with the boon, if it is something that is jealously guarded

Sometimes a guide or assistant will be needed to return our hero, especially if the hero has been wounded or weakened during the quest

The Crossing of the Return Threshold

Keeping what has been gained on the quest and integrating that into everyday life is often a difficult task. Sharing that wisdom is often difficult, too.

This is where the hero achieves a level of comfort with their own new-found knowledge

The hero no longer fears death, which is the freedom to live. This is living in the moment, neither anticipating the future nor regretting the past
