1. These states consisted of Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, and Missouri.


2. They were all slave states but they didn't have very many and could join either side.

Border States

1. This would prevent the south from getting any more supplies from other places that required ships.


2. This is a strategy used to close or prevent somebody else from passing or getting through.

Blockade

1. The North's strategy was called this because it would cut off their supplies, and squeeze the south out. Just like the anaconda squeezes its prey to death.


2. The union would blockade the southern ports. Second the North would gain control of the entire Mississippi River. Thirdly they would capture Richmond, Virginia, the confederate capitol.

Anaconda Plan

1. This man got the nickname stonewall because he was seen holding out heroically, "like a stone wall."

3. I think that the North got too confident and didn't expect the South to return with that much power.

Thomas Jackson

1. The leader of the confederacy was General P.G.T Beauregard and Thomas Jackson. The Union was lead by General Irvin McDowell.


2. This battle took place on July 21, 1861.


3. This battle took place in northern Virginia about 5 miles from the town of Manassas Junction near a small river call Bull Run.


4. The South won this battle.


5. This would be a long and costly struggle.

1. These are the smaller rivers that flow into a larger river.


2. Since the union took control of the Tributaries and the Mississippi river the South couldn't get all the supplies they needed.
