Delaware, Maryland , Kentucky, and Missouri. It was hard to choose for these state because Slavery was legal in all four states, though none had many enslaved people. All four had ties to the North and South. These states were vital to the Union because of their strategic locations. Missouri could control parts of the Mississippi River and major routes to the West. Kentucky controlled the Ohio River. Delaware was close to Philadelphia. |

The name applied to an outline strategy for suppressing the Confederacy at the beginning of the American Civil War. The plan emphasized a Union blockade of the Southern ports, and called for an advance down the Mississippi River to cut the South in two. The Union won but really they both lost because they lost a lot of men and supplies.Because the Union won this war they got Tennessee and gained Mississippi river. |
