Stagnant hypoxia |
Occurs when Bloods oxygen carrying capacity is adequate but circulation is inadequate. Conditions such as heart failure, arterial spasm, and blood vessel occlusion predisposed affected individuals to stagnant hypoxia. This type of hypoxia occurs when a crew member experiences extreme gravitational forces and blood flow is disrupted causing blood to stagnate. |

Histotoxic hypemia |
Results from an interference with the use of oxygen by body tissues. alcohol, narcotics, and certain poisons such as cyanide interfere with the cells ability to use adequate supply of oxygen. |

Treatment of hypoxia |
Individuals who exhibit signs and symptoms of hypoxia must be treated immediately. Treatment consists of giving individual 100% oxygen. If oxygen is not available descend to an altitude below 10,000 feet. When hypoxia systems persist the type and cause must be determined and treatment administered accordingly. |
