Slide 3 WHAT
This basically means that all people born in the United States, are subject to the laws of the United States and of the state where the live. No state should make or enforce a law that will reduce rights or protection of citizens of the United States. Also, no state should deny any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; Due process is the legal requirements that the state must respect all of the legal rights that a person has. Also, no person can be deprived of the equal protection of the laws.

Slide 4 WHY
The Fourteenth Amendment was one of the three constitutional amendments that came about during the Civil War in 1861 to 1865. The three constitutional amendments became known as the Civil War amendments or the Reconstruction Amendments. In contrast to the 13th Amendment ratified three years earlier in 1865, the 14th amendment is about states’ rights instead of the major Civil War issue of slavery.

The 14th amendment gave black people citizenship, although slaves couldn’t exercise their right until the Civil Rights laws came about until 1964 and 1965. After the ratification of the Rights of Citizens, slaves were allowed to exercise their constitutional rights

slide 6 HOW ARE WE AFFECTED TODAY
The 14th amendment protects people from discrimination, and unequal or unfair treatment. This is because the Rights of Citizens protects all the basic rights of U.S citizens and no law can deny you of your rights.

slide 7 REAL LIFE EXAMPLE
One example of how the 14th amendment was used in society was in case of McDonald vs. Chicago. The issue was that is was unclear if the Chicago handgun ban was constitutional. Court ruled in favor of the City of Chicago on December 18, 2008. The 2nd amendment foundation requested that the Supreme court review the case on September 30, 2009. People felt strongly that the handgun ban would violate the 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms. So Chicago had to revise their ban because it would violate the 14th amendment since the citizens had there rights taken away from them.
