Describe pathogenesis of AIDS
|
HIV enters cells via gp120 glycoprotein - mainly cells with CD4 molecules
These are T-cells, Macrophages and Glial cells Viral replication leads to viremia which is controlled by immune response. It then enters latent phase. Gradual erosion of CD4+ cells. Ultimately very little CD4+ cells and patient develops clinical symptoms of AIDS. |
