What two things should telephone advice be limited to?
1. Instructions on first aid
2. Advising patient to seek further assistance by calling MAS or presenting to ED

If advice IS given, it must be recorded by taping or in a designated folder.

The above is ACEM policy verbatim

(NB Dunn doesn't mention GP or 'stay home' as option here - I think this is deliberate - 'other forms of advice given by staff who have not been treating pt for current condition have been found to be inadequate')
Is there an exception to this?
When staff member is familiar to/has adequate memory of recent ED attendance phone advice may be appropriate - but should always be DOCUMENTED in medical record
