What creates CSF?
Ependymal cells of choroid plexus in lateral ventricles

Lumbar puncture
What is communicating hydrocephalus?
Dec CSF absorption by arachnoid granulaitons, which can lead to inc intracranial pressure, papilledema, herniation
What is normal pressure hydrocephalus?
Results in inc subarachnoid space volume but no increase in CSF pressure
What is the classic triad of normal pressure hydrocephalus?
Urinary incontinence, ataxia, cognitive dysfunction
"Wet, wobbly, wacky"
What is hydrocephalus ex vacuo?
Appearance of inc CSF in atrophy (like alzheimers, advanced HIV, Pick's disease)
What is noncommunicating hydrocephalus?
Caused by structural blockage of CSF circulation within the ventricular system
In what population is pseudotumor cerebri seen?
Young, obese females
What are the symptoms of Pseudotumor cerebri?
HA's, daily, worse in the morning, N/V, possible retroocular pain worsened by eye movement, papilledema, vision loss
How do you treat Pseudotumor cerebri?
Weight loss, discontinue inciting agents, Acetazolamide
