Blue background, red lettering, name of agent if know, time/date of detection |
Radiological Marker |
White background, black lettering, dose rate, date and time of reading, date and time of burst |
Chemical Mine Marker |
Red background with yellow lettering and stripe, chemical of agent in mine, date of emplacement, front facing it, away from minefield |
M40 mask |
Protects wearer from field concentrations of chemical and biological agents |
CBRN Alarms |
Vocal: “Gas-gas-gas” Visual: fists out to side, bend arms at elbows Percussion: Metal on metal, other sirens and alarms used per SOP |
How many MOPP levels |
Six, MOPP ready through MOPP 4 |
MOPP Ready |
Marine carries their protective mask |
MOPP 0 |
Marine has MOPP gear available but is not wearing it |
MOPP 1 |
Overgarment worn open or closed |
MOPP 2 |
Overgarment and booties worn |
MOPP 3 |
Overgarment, booties and mask Work, hood open or closed |
MOPP 4 |
Overgarment and hood worn and closed, booties, mask and gloves worn |
M9 Detector paper |
Tape, 1 role per quad, detects the presents of chemical agents, will not identify the agent |
M8 detector paper |
Issued with field protective mask and the M256A1 chemical agent detector kit used for liquid. |
M8 Paper colors |
Yellow/gold - G - Nerve Dark green - V - nerve Pink/red - h - Blister |
Immediate Decon |
Minimizes casualties. Individual decontaminates upon contamination |
Operational Decon |
Limits spread of contamination to eliminate the necessity or reside the duration of wearing MOPP gear |
Thorough Decon |
Reduced or eliminates need for individual protective clothing |
Immediate Decon techniwues |
Skin Decon (1 minute or less), personnel wipe down operator’s spray down both done within 15 minutes |
Operational Decon techniques |
Vehicle wash down and MOPP gear exchange, don’t withing 6 hours |
Thorough Decon techiques |
Detailed troop Decon, detailed equipment Econ, and detailed aircraft Decon, only when mission allows reconstitution |
Reacting to a nuclear blast |
Take immediate action, take cover if possible, drop face down, helmet on, heat towards blast, close eyes and cover skin, weapon under body if carried. Stay down for 90 seconds or until debris stops falling |
Nerve agent |
Interferes with normal transmission of peeve impulses in the parasympathetic nervous system. |
Nerve agent symptons |
Inhalation’s: pupils constrict. Skin exposure: local muscular twitching. Other symptoms: rhinorrhea, suspensions, diarrhea, vomiting, convulsions, hyper salivation, drowsiness, and unconsciousness |
Nerve Agent treatment |
2 mg auto injection atropine, an acetylcholine blocker and 600mg autoinjection of 2-PAM CL. Administer at 15 minute intervals until mild atropinization occurrs (Tachycardia and dry mouth) |
Blister agents |
Produces large painful blisters that are incapacitating |
Mustard Blister Agents signs and symptoms |
Oily, colorless or pale yellow liquids, may produce eye inclination, eyes are the most sensitive. Pain and gritty feeling are first signs in eyes. Blistering begins 12 to 48 hours. Inhalation is followed by irritation of the thought, hoarseness, and a cough followed by fever moist rales and dyspnea Death caused by pulmonary obstruction |
Lewisite blister signed and symptoms |
Lewisite is an arsenical, light to dark brown, irritation is immediate, intense pain upon contact |
Blister Agent treatment |
Clean any exposed skin off ASAP to mitigate symptoms, British anti-lewisite (BAL), dimercaprol. An injection of more than 3 mg/kg will cause severe symptoms |
Blood Agents |
Interfere with enzyme functions I.e. Blocking oxygen transfer. Hydrodynamic acid (AC) and cyanogen chloride (CK) |
Blood Agents signs and symptoms |
Death or recovery takes place Forceful increase in depth in respirations after seconds, violent convulsions 20-30 seconds, and respiratory failure and heart failure within minutes |
Blood Agents treatment |
Amyloid nitrite in crush ampules ass first aid and IV sodium thiosulfate solution. Crush up to eight ampules near pts nose. Thiosulfate requires at 100 to 200 mg/kg over 9 minutes |
Choking Agents |
Cause extensive damage to alveolar tissue, resulting in pulmonary edema. Include phosgene (CG), chlorine (CL), chloropricrin and siphosgene. CG is most likely |
Choking Agents signs and symptoms |
Watering of eyes, coughing, tightness in the chest. No symptoms for 2 to 6 hours after exposure |
Choking agents treatment |
Bed rest, treat symptomatically |
Incapacitating Agents |
Produce mental confusion and an inability to function intelligently |
Incapacitating agents signs and symptoms |
Symptoms appear in 30 minutes to several hours after exposure, may persist for several days. Third affected may make irrational statements and have delusions or hallucinations, may complain of dizziness, dry mouth, muscular in coordination, and difficulty swallowing |
Incapacitating agents treatment |
Prevent patients from injuring themselves nad others. If affected by BZ or another glycolate physostigmine is treatment of choice. |
Riot control/harassing agents |
Lacrimators and vomiting agents. Describes chemical compounds having similar characteristics of producing temporary effect in very low concentration |
Lacrimators |
CN and CS, local irritants that act primarily on the eyes, also the respiratory tract and skin in high doses. Treat with fresh air. |
Vomiting agents |
Adamsite (DM) aDA, and DC. Produce a sting pepper like irritation in the upper respiratory tract. Cause violent uncontrollable sneezing, coughing, nausea, vomiting, and malaise. Wear mask though symptoms, symptoms may increase despite mask being effective until it passes. Carry out duties vigorously, rinse irritates read with water |
Screening smokes |
Used to obscure ares, do not use indoors or closed compartments |
White phosphorus |
WP is a solid that ignites spontaneously when contacting air to give a hot, dense, white smoke. Smoke may irritate eyes nose and throat. Cover embedded phosphorus with water, wet cloth, or mud, removed surgically |
