What is a pathogen?

A microorganism that causes disease

Why are the digestive and respiratory systems often the sites of entry for pathogens?

Diffusion takes place in these systems so they have a large SA, are thin, moist and well supplied with blood vessels. This makes it easy for pathogens to attach to and penetrate them.

In what 2 ways do pathogens cause disease?

By damaging the host tissues. Viruses inhibit the synthesis of DNA, RNA and proteins by the host cells.

●By producing toxins
