Where does renal filtration clearance take place?
glomerulus of the kidney is where CLfiltration occurs
What kinds of molecules can move into the kidney to be filtered?
anything smaller than albumin, so the larger a protein is, the less likely it is to be filtered in the bowman's capsule of the glomerulus
How is CLfiltration calculated?
CLfiltration = fup*GFR

fup = unbound drug in plasma
GFR = glomular filtration rate. rate of which drug is being delivered to the filtration site
What are normal serum creatinine levels and what pathophysiology does high serum creatinine levels indicate?
normal: 0.8 to 1.3 mg/dL for men; 0.6 to 1.0 mg/dL for women

high serum levels means that it's not being cleared properly by the kidney, so there is some kind of kidney failure. creatinine fup = 1. 100% of creatinine is unbound.
What does ideal CLcreatinine depend on?
ideal body weight is a major factor which depends on height, weight, sex, age, so it can be calculated for a patient individually
What is secretion relative to kidney function?
secretion is an active process against a concentration gradient which is also used in total renal clearance
What is the GFR average?
125 mL/min
What is reabsorption in the kidney?
an active process of taking molecules BACK once they have been cleared

Relative to reabsorbing weak bases:

Eratio = CLR/(fup*GFR)

Eratio = 1 means secretion = reabsorption
Eratio < 1 means secretion < reabsorption
Eratio > 1 means secretion > reabsorption
