Set up work environment: position bed, trashcan and bedside table.

Raise HOB to 30-45 degree position.

Don clean gloves and discontinue suction (if applicable).

Check placement and flush tube with 10cc of water or normal saline.

Unpin tube from patient’s gown. Carefully remove tape from patient’s nose.

Instruct patient to take a deep breath and hold it.

Clamp tube w/fingers and carefully remove tube quickly while patient holds breath.Coil tube in disposabl
towel as you remove it from the patient.

Dispose of tube per policy. Remove and dispose of gloves.

Put on a clean pair of gloves.

Offer oral hygiene to patient and reposition patient in a comfortable position. Lower bed.
