Give 5 Scriptures that point to Christ as being God.
John1:1 / Romans 9:5 / Titus 2:13 /
Hebrews 1:8 / I John 5:20
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1 [Jesus is God]
....whose are the fathers, and from whom is the Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.
Romans 9:5
Jesus is God [Romans]
...looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us....
Titus 2:13
Jesus is God [Titus]
But of the Son He says, "YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER, AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM.
[Jesus is God] Hebrews 1:8
...we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
[Jesus is God] I John 5:20
Give 3 places in the Scripture where Jesus accepted man's worship.
After Peter walked on the water (Matthew 14:33) After His resurrection (Matthew 28:9) In heaven (Revelation 5:8-14)
Where in Scripture did Jesus say that only GOD should be worshipped?
At His temptation. Matthew 4:10
When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, "You are certainly God's Son!"
Matthew 14:33
And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.
Matthew 28:9 [Jesus, being God, accepts worship]
And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation....And the four living creatures kept saying, "Amen." And the elders fell down and worshiped.
Revelation 5:8-14
Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
Jesus is God / Acts 20:28
Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed."
John 20:28-29 [Jesus is God]
"I and the Father are one."
The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?"
The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God."
John 10:30-33 [Clearly, those who listened to Jesus knew that he was claiming to be God! Jesus did not back down.]
When Jesus said "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30)what is the significance which is shown from the Greek word "one."
It is neuter, not masculine. It is not indicating one in person or purpose, but rather one in ESSENCE or NATURE.
This crisp statement is the climax of Christ's claims about the relationship between the Father and the Son. It stirred the Pharisees to uncontrollable anger.
But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, "Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?"
Mark 2:6-7 [Jesus, by forgiving sins, claims to be God]

(paralytic let down through the roof)
How were Christ's words to the paralytic "Your sins are forgiven" different than when I say to someone "I forgive you."
I can forgive injuries committed against me, but in no way can I forgive sins committed against God.
Give three things that can be considered proofs that Jesus was who He said He was?
His miracles, fulfilled prophecies --but mainly His resurrection.
...who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,
Romans 1:4 [the resurrection points to the fact the Jesus is God]
But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Matthew 12:39-40
...After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, MOST OF WHOM REMAIN UNTIL NOW, but some have fallen asleep...
I Corinthians 15:6
How can the resurrection of Christ be defended both positively and "negatively" (lack of any evidence for an alternative)?
POSITIVE: Many witnesses still living

NEGATIVE:There are 3 interest groups who could have stolen Jesus' body -- but it would make no sense for them to do so. (Romans, Jews, disciples)
Why would the Romans not have wanted to take Jesus' body secretly from the tomb?
They wanted to keep peace in Palestine; leaving the body there would have been the best means to do that.
Why would the Jews not have wanted to take Jesus' body secretly from the tomb?
The last thing the Jews wanted was a proclamation of the resurrection. They are the ones who asked for a guard!
Why would the disciples not have taken Jesus' body from the tomb?
Most of the disciples were later killed--would they be willing to die for something they knew was a lie?
For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eye witnesses of His majesty.
II Peter 1:16
What can you say to someone that says Jesus never existed.
The NT contains 27 separate documents; the facts were recorded by eye witnesses. ALSO, there are Jewish and Roman secular historians who refer to Him.
Summarize what Josephus (born A.D. 37) wrote about Christ.
"Now there was about this time, Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful works...He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles...He was (the)Christ; and when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned Him to the cross, those who loved him at the first did not forsake him, for he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him; and the tribe of Christians, so named after him, are not extinct at this day (Antiquities, XVIII,III)
Identify 4 well-known ancient secular historians who spoke of Jesus' existence.
JOSEPHUS (Jewish) TACITUS, SEUTONIUS and PLINY THE YOUNGER (Roman)
Why is it absurd to hold to the view that Jesus never existed?
We know more about the life of Jesus than just about any other figure in the ancient world. His birth, his life and death are revealed in much more detail than most ancient figures whose existence is taken for granted. [Merezhovsky: "It would never enter anyone's head to ask whether Jesus lived, unless before asking the question the mind had not been darkened by the wish that he had not lived."
How could one respond when someone brings up "contradictions" as to the time of the crucifixion of Jesus? [Mark said "it was the 3rd hour" and John said "about the 6th hour"]
Finer distinctions of time were not recognized without consulting the sun dials, which were not everywhere. The days, like the night watches, were divided into periods. Mark could have referred to the earlier period (9 a.m.) and John the later (noon). Another explanation is that one could have been using Roman time and the other Jewish -- they were different.
How could Jesus have remained in the tomb 3 days and 3 nights if He was crucified on Friday and rose on Sunday?
"After 3 days" and "on the third day" are simply idiomatic, interchangeable terms commonly used by the Jews--more references state that Jesus rose ON the 3rd day. The Jews indicated a day, even when only a part of the day was involved.
