The steps of synthesis process can be explained in Fig. 1.
The Zn (NO3)2.4H2O (zinc nitrate tetrahydrate) and
Al (NO3)2.9H2O (aluminum nitrate nonahydrate) (Merck) are used as a precursor. ZnO precursor solution with the concentration of 0.15 M was made by dissolving 0.89 grams of powder precursor Zn(NO3)3.4H2O in 40 ml of solvent. Solvent comprises a mixture of 30 ml deionized water and 10 ml of ethanol. To speed up the process of dissolution, the mixture was stirred using a magnetic stirrer for 30 minutes. The next process is to add the certain amount of urea catalyst to accelerate the reaction. Urea was added slowly to a solution of Zn(NO3) 3.4H2 O. Then, the mixture was stirred using magnetic stirrer for 30 minutes. Al dopant obtained from

Al dopant in the experiments were made in three variations of the dopant 3% mol, 5% mol and 7% mol Al precursor to
ZnO precursor, respectively. After characterize the composition of Al dopant was 1.48 at%, 2.9 at% and 3.55 at% Al, respectively. The fabrication processes of AZO thin films are similar to the fabrication process of pure ZnO thin film.
Alumina substrate coated by electrodes was immersed in a solution of ZnO and AZO precursors. The temperature is set at 60 °C for 2 days for aging. After that, the samples were cleaned with acetone, and then dried at room temperature for later performed in heat treatment process. In this process, the samples will be dried in the furnace using a temperature of 300 °C for 30 minutes. Finally, the sample is ready to the further characterization and measurement for sensor performance testing

In a typical example, 1 g c-PEO-OH was dissolved in 30 mL anhydrous N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent under dry argon atmosphere, to which 10 mL 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide was added at 0 °C dropwise for 30 min under vigorous stirring. The reaction mixture was then allowed to proceed at room temperature for 1 d. After that, the solution was concentrated by reduced pressure distillation to remove NMP solvent and excess 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide. The crude product was then washed with saturated aqueous solution of NaHCO3 and water sequentially for 3 times, dried over MgSO4, and precipitated in cold n-hexane to obtain a final brown viscous product. Preparation of c-PEO-N3 by substituting the Br on c-PEO-Br with azide functionalities…

The second part of this multistep synthesis was to prepare Benzil from the reaction of Benzoin and HNO3. This was done through reflux, vacuum filtration and recrystallization techniques. The melting point was recorded to ensure the completion of this reaction. The melting point was determined to be 69℃. The limiting reagent for this reaction was determined to be benzoin.…

Whenever the word nitro comes up it turns to something explosive. In chapter 5 it is mainly about nitro compounds and it explains what is and how it works based on the molecular structure. Nitro compounds are indeed explosive. Gun powder can be considered one of the earliest items to be referred as a fire chemical component. The gun powder components are known to be all reactive products which cause the reaction of an explosion.…

The purpose of this report and lab was to assist in visualizing the structure of infinitesimally small objects and how they fit together. Normal object fit together similarly to microscopic atoms and experiment 2 exploits this to help understand structure property relationships. The knowledge gained here directly applies to the world as applications of the materials becomes apparent as the properties are explored. Copper…

The rate of reaction in an enzyme catalysed reaction is also affected by the presence of inhibitors. In this experiment, the effect of temperature on reaction rate of enzyme will be studied. Peroxidase will be used as test enzyme and the variable to be studied is temperature (°C). At first, the experiment will be carried out at room temperature of 20°C.…

In this lab we were trying to answer the question: What buffer solution will cause the catalase concentration to work most efficiently and why? Our hypothesis for this lab was, “If a buffer with a lower pH is mixed with the catalase solution, then more oxygen will evolve from the hydrogen peroxide”. We formulated this hypothesis due to the fact that liquids with lower pH’s are more…

A chemical reaction is a process in which one or more substances, which are the reactants, are converted to one or more different substances, which are the products. The substances in a chemical reaction are either chemical elements or compounds. There are different observations that indicate a chemical reaction has taken place. Formation of precipitate, which is a solid formed in a chemical reaction. Precipitate can take place when solutions containing ionic compounds are mixed and an insoluble product forms.…

At the catalytic site, the zinc ion will act as a Lewis acid (McCall, Huang & Fierce, 2000). Zinc can be classified as a metalloenzyme, which is a metal ion catalyst. This catalytic zinc site is located at the active site of calcium. This has further been confirmed by X-ray crystallography and enzymological studies of calciums active site. This concludes my findings…

In this equation, x and y denotes the number of moles of RE and Mn atoms per formula unit of the structure, respectively. The RE and Mn represent the theoretical magnetic moment of trivalent free RE3+ ions and divalent Mn2+ ions respectively. The experimental values of total magnetic moments were found to be smaller than the calculated values (Table xyz). The crystal field effects can lead to lower value of magnetic moments for RE3+ ions in these compositions as compared to free RE3+ ions, which in turn could lower the total magnetic moment of these compositions. This discrepancy in the total magnetic moment values could also be due to the presence of secondary phases in these samples.…

Hydrochloric acid (HCl, 37%, Sigma-Aldrich®) and nitric acid (HNO3, 70%, Sigma Aldrich®) were added to the solution to inhibit the precipitation of the solution by controlling the hydrolysis and condensation reactions. Based on the TTIP content, HCl was added in the molar ratio of 0.09 (TWCl), and HNO3 was in the molar ratio of 0.09 (TWN1) and 0.15 (TWN2), respectively. These solutions were aged for 24 h before spin coating treatment to improve film quality. The SiO2 solution was also prepared by mixing ethanol, deionized water, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS, 99%, Sigma-Aldrich®), and HCl in the molar ratio of 10:4:1:0.03 for introducing SiO2 barrier layers onto soda-lime glass substrates. The TiO2/WO3 and SiO2 solutions were stable and transparent for two weeks without precipitation at room…
