A solution to this social issue is to start a program where young adults ages 12 to 18 can go to receive life-guidance, workshops, and activities to keep themselves away from trouble. Also, a way to prevent youth from having difficulties at home, school and in their community. Throughout the years, there had been many prevention programs to help at-risk youth. Most of them were successful. However one of the programs that were not fully successful to help youth was the Beyond Scared Straight program.…
Many say it takes a village to raise a child and I believe this has come truth to it. Many can vulture that having a multiple people support system is best for juvenile and the youth in general. Serious juvenile offenders are at high risk for mental and physical health problems Treatment for serious/violent juvenile offenders are very scarious. Once a person commits a serious/violent crime as a member of the youth community end up feeling like they are drowning in a cup of water. The services provided for them hardly seem to help and many of them come out with more problems than they went in with.…
Title IX Historical Setting In 1972, the U.S. Department of Education passed Title IX; thus ensuring equal opportunities for both sexes in educational institutions. This title came during a time of revolution, and society fighting for equality in all aspects of life. At this time in society, women were consistently given unequal opportunities in education, starting from primary school. The title was created to provide opportunities, in an attempt to decrease an advantage one sex held over the other. The title was approached cautiously to help prevent alienation of the students, and created in a manner to promote growth and possibilities.…
Every single individual person that is living in the United States today and probably for years to come das been affected by juvenile crime. It not only affects parents, siblings, teachers, neighbors, and all families involved. This also affects the victims of crime, the bystander, and the perpetrators. Although the delinquency rates are experiencing a decrease, this is not true in many cities the rate is still remaining high. In these high crime cities numerous programs have attempted to try and lower this juvenile rate, but while there are a few that can be extremely successful and other programs have no impact and just minimal impact.…
Mayor Kip Holden, the mayor of Baton Rouge, has had a significant influence on me and my choices. Mr. Holden has been the mayor of Baton Rouge since 2005, and continues to be reelected because of his good policies. He’s hardworking, honest, and willing to listen to the people. He strives for the best of my city, and continues to lead our town to success. Additionally, every year Mr. Holden develops a group called the Mayor’s Youth Council.…
Another 42% of the juvenile arrests in 2014 were property related crimes.(Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention). If no one else can help the young people of America then these arrests will just keep reoccurring. The Center will help the young men to create a better society for all…
Adult state jails serve to contain, punish, and separate potentially dangerous criminals from society, however juvenile state jails set out to rehabilitate our troubled youth. The government understands the differences between the brains of a fully grown adult and the brains of our youth community, therefore rather than lock away and forget about the youth, as we do with adults in state jails or prisons, the government invests in the rehabilitation of our youth through programs like the D.M.C. or the Disproportionate Minority Confinement. Youth state jails, controlled under the J.J.D.P. or Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, serve as a means of rehabilitation for the troubled youth. Shay Bilchik, the administrator of the Juvenile Justice…
All of these reasons and so many more are why a program such as Teens on Top could be so successful. Although imaginary, it takes everything a foster care youth aging out of foster care needs to be successful and presents it to them in one, neat package. It pairs behavior specialists, life coaches, local counseling agencies to provide psychological and coping services, financial counselors, employment guidance, and an online forum for peer support in hopes of helping these teenagers become successful, thriving…
Though it may be a long process to address the absolute solutions to the numerous problems in the system, there are some that we can never solve. Mainly being the mental and psychological damage that comes with being admitted into the system, whatever is done to improve the system it will never fix the damage done to the spirits and minds of the children who have been placed into the care of strangers for their own protection. Furthermore, the continuous development of the foster care system is needed to further address the issues facing thousands of minors in America…
I believe that young teenager shouldn’t have to be trialed as adults and have life sentences without parole or face harsh sentences like the death penalty. Instead these young adolescents should be able to redeem themselves and be given the opportunity for a second chance rather than being convicted to a lifetime sentence. I see no see no positive reinforcement to change the attitude or perspective of a young teenager’s mind if they are to place teens to solitary confinement and be given prescription medication to endure their mental and physical pain. My suggestion to aid these adolescent into to a healthier mental state is by seeing a doctor or psychiatrist to find the source of this aggressive suppressed behavior as opposed to just forcing…
Rear Ending Recidivism Juvenile boot camps serve as an effective alternative to the traditional incarceration system because of their morals, methods, and motivations. They are the best solution to slowing crime rates for troubled youth. In today 's world, there are thousands of cases of recidivism each year. Keeping kids from reoffending throughout their lives can not only save us millions of dollars as a country, but due to the nature of their crimes, it could also keep our citizens safe from arson, robbery and murder. Juvenile Boot Camps serve a great and effective purpose.…
Transition of Youth Aging out the Foster Care System Every year, there are more than 30,000 kids who age out of the foster care system (Richards, 2014). In most states, the cut off age is 18; however, some states have increased the age to 21. When these kids finally reach the age of 18, they are left to the world with no support. Homelessness, hunger, lack of healthcare and education is what nearly 30% of the 30,000 kids are left with. More federal and state governments need to instate policies for the well-being and safety of the kids that are left to face our society without any support.…
Through the discussion I will refer to mental illness as mental health behaviors as I do not like the term "mentally ill" because of the negative stigma that is tied with mental illness. In my personal opinion, I do not believe we have many resources to proactively treat Mental Health behaviors, especially for the young and the addicted. Usually community services does not get involved until the individual has committed a crime or has caused harm to self or another person. Also, I believe community sources such as Community Mental Health is lacking to give quality services because state funding is always being cut, and they can not employee counselors long enough to create a therapeutic relationship with their clients. And because of the lack of community services many of the young or addicted is turned over to the criminal system, and as sad as it sounds, jails and prisons is our main source of community services for many who suffer from health behaviors.…
This is showing that many children who are sent to prison under harsh conditions often leave the prison with motives to commit another more dangerous crime. In 2010, 16 year-old, Kalief Browder, was sent to Riker’s Island Prison in New York City for being accused of stealing a backpack. He waited for trial in jail for three years, and two years in solitary confinement. He was later released in 2014 and committed suicide a year later (Lyons 750).…
