Why I Want To Pursue A Bachelor's Degree In College

Improved Essays
The major I have chosen to pursue at The University of Maryland - College Park, is elementary education. I chose this major because I truly enjoy working with children and hope to help educate the future generations so they can go on to be the best learners that they could possibly be. I aspire to be a role model and not only teach my students, but learn from their experiences too. I understand that teaching is not the job choice that will pay the most, but I believe that by giving back to the community and educating the future doctors, lawyers, presidents and more, I will be paid with more then just money. By teaching, I will have the satisfaction of watching my students succeed and building meaningful relationships with them at such a crucial time in their lives. I will experience hardships and have to work through them, and I will have to encounter the hardships that my students will face. There are few jobs that are as emotionally rewarding as teaching. Teachers see the same students everyday and get the experience of learning who they truly are. I can’t wait to be able to integrate the differences of my students and work to make sure everyone feels …show more content…
While high school was interesting and fun, I hope to experience more challenges in college. Working with new people instead of the same crowd I have been working with for over four years will be an interesting change, but I am very excited for it. I hope to get a whole new experience out of college that I haven’t encountered yet. Of course, there are the normal reasons too; I hope to get a good job and be financially stable, but those reasons seem minor compared to my eagerness to learn. I hope to work with children from all walks of life, and be able to help inspire them to be as interested in learning as I was, and still am today. And of course, with my college education, I hope to make my parents

1 I come from a long line of educators and administrators on both sides of my family. Various relatives of mine have taught me to understand and appreciate the importance of education. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…

Most people change their career decisions multiple times before they actually pick a final job, but I never had an interest in anything other than being a teacher. I have always connected with younger kids over high school or middle school children, which is why I chose to major in Early Childhood Education. I believe that teachers have the ability not only change the world, but improve it. I want to become a teacher because seeing that light bulb go off and seeing the looks on the student’s faces when they get a problem is a great feeling. Many kids are ignored at home or even bullied at home and I want to make all those children feel wanted and to know that someone is there for them and truly does care about them.…

When I graduated from Washington Sate University in 2012, I left with a network of life long friends, a double major in Psychology and Sociology title added to my resume, as well as the desire to learn and explore outside of the classroom. I traveled throughout Thailand and Bali, becoming inspired by yoga and the art of meditation. Returning home I engulfed myself in a demanding spiritual and physical training course, earning my certificate as a Registered Yoga Teacher. Then moved to St. John, VI; four thousand miles from the support system at home, into a culture entirely new to myself. There I forged a new network of friends, built a new home, and truly learned that I am capable of taking any challenges life throws at me and conquering…

There is a quote that states, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” This quote is very true to how I view being an educator. The joy of helping children succeed and helping them aspire to be the something great is not what I consider a “job”. I considered it my obligation as a caring and encouraging individual to become a significant part of a student’s personal and academic growth. Teaching is a way of life in which I have aspired to live for quite some time.…

My Motivation: What motivates me the most to pursue a college degree is that I will be the first person in my family to receive one. My grandmother is the backbone behind this motivation because she was always making sure that academics came first in my life. There was rarely a day that I would come home and she would not ask me questions about my homework, asking what I learned in school, or even looked over my homework. As I got older, she made sure I was a part of a college prep program called AVID from 6th-12th grade and that definitely made a difference for me. It helped me understand the importance of continuing your education and how beneficial it can be to succeeding in life.…

Nationwide teacher shortages are occurring due to low pay, and districts are fighting to recruit teachers. Teachers aren 't receiving a high enough salary and deserve to be paid more, especially considering the amount of work the job requires. Educators leave the profession because they aren’t making enough money or feeling valued. This impacts not only the shortage of teachers, but also the quality of education students are receiving. The profession of teaching is essential because it is educating our future leaders and teachers salaries should reflect this valuable role in society.…

Introduction Teaching is a complex and demanding profession that requires intense dedication and passion. It is a profession where the responsibility is great, the potential for failure is significant and the remuneration small. Despite the tribulations of the job, teaching traditionally has offered its share of rewards. Finding ways to connect meaningfully with students, designing lessons that addresses students’ needs, and using one’s talents to improve the lives of others are the moral rewards that are embedded in the work. Rather than merely a job, some would regard teaching as a “calling” (Duke, 1984).…

When I first started my internship, finding my role in the classroom was challenging. I began my first days as an observer and tutored during recess. Further into the week, I decided to step out of my comfort zone, challenge myself, and began to take on the role as the teacher, and that is when I began to grow as a person. Sixth Ward Middle School gave me the opportunity to work with children, which is something that I truly enjoy. Upon completion of my internship, not only did I grow as an educator, but I also realized the passion I have for working with children.…

The Gift of Teaching Think back to the year 2000. Our president was Bill Clinton,Y2K never happened, people were watching the first season of Survivor, and the biggest economic question was how the government was going to spend its $230 billion dollar surplus. Oh, and gas cost about $1.30/gallon. Terrorist attacks were problems for the rest of the world, we were certainly impervious to such threats in America. And in this year… the year before everything changed, I started teaching at Masuk High School.…

In life I have always been the person to put money in the little red bucket outside of Walmart so someone could have a better holiday, buy the toys as well as food and put them in the bin in any store I went in so they could play and eat. I have always been the girl who wanted to do more, and to help more. I knew no matter what I did when I grew up that I was going to impact a lot of people’s lives, and I was going to work with children. It wasn’t until a week before my senior year in high school I sat down with my guidance consoler talking about which classes I needed to take, and what I was going to major in, that is when I decided I was going to be a teacher. Teaching isn’t for everyone and that’s…
