The Peace Of Wild Things Analysis

Why are poems written and why are they so admirable? My answer to this question is because poems are raw. Most poets write about death, love, pain, suffering, destruction, nature, beauty and much more. In other words, they do not sugar coat anything for us, the readers, which is why I describe their work as raw. Another reason I consider their work is raw is because, poets, tend to write about their own lives and their own experiences which allows the readers to relate to them with ease. The poems I chose to compare are “Autumn Movement” by Carl Sandburg, “Birches” by Robert Frost and “The Peace of Wild Things” by Wendell Berry. Why did I choose these three poems? Well its simple, these poems have one theme in common which is they are all about …show more content…
Robert Frost, in the poem, discuses how certain factors of nature bring up memories for him. At times, although I can’t visually recall a memory from my childhood, I am able to recall a certain smell. “Then he flung outward, feet first, with a swish. / Kicking his way down through the air to the ground. / So was I once myself a swinger of birches. / And so I dream of going back to be (Lines 39-42). In “Birches”, Frost, talks about the concept how nature can bring back memories whether it’s through certain smell or watching some children swing. We see in the lines above how he is recalling his childhood by watching these children swing in the trees and wishes he could go back to the simpler times when he was those children. Towards the end of the poem he says, “I’d like to get away from earth awhile / and then come back to it and begin over… / Earth’s the right place for love (Lines 48-49, 52). Although at times he wants to climb the birches and be far away from Earth and all his worries, he doesn’t completely want to disappear because “Earth’s the right place for love” (Line

I am writing my essay over the poems “Mountain Boomer” by Howard Starks, “Chahta Ahaya Moma” by Ron Wallace, and “Hurt Hawks” by Robinson Jeffers. The reason why I chose these three poems is because they all seem to have a distinct form of sadness. They are about being cornered, destroyed, and/or killed. I like these poems because of how sad and true they are. They represent the things we humans have a tendency to do at times, whether to humans or animals.…

The bent birch branches symbolize his childhood, back when he would swing on the branches. However, the birch branches are bent realistically by ice storms. “But swinging doesn’t bend them down to stay as ice storms do” (Frost 875). The branches symbolize Frost’s desire to go back to a time where things were simpler and fun, “So I was once a swinger of birches, and so I dream of going back to be” (Frost 876). Frost realizes how terrible it is to grow up and face reality through the branch’s symbolism.…

When things get too much for me I usually try to take a break and let something else distract my mind, and that exactly what Chris McCandless did except his break lasted 113 days. In Jon Krakauer’s book Into the Wild he depicts and analyzes the journey Chris took to get away from society. Chris was only 24 when he left home and went onto his own into the wilderness and was 24 when his body was found in an abandoned bus off the Stampede trail in Alaska. He was unlike any person you could meet, an opportunist, an ambivert, and independent. To some Chris’ idea to go into the wild was foolish but to him it was exactly what he needed.…

Poetry is a way for people to express their inner most thoughts and feelings. When I read poems, I feel as if I can feel exactly what the author is feeling. Edward Hirsch believes “a reader of poetry is a kind of pilgrim setting out, setting forth” as explained in his article, “To the Reader Setting Out”. Hirsch compared a reader to a pilgrim in his article. In his article, he stated, “Reading poetry is an adventure in renewal, a creative act, a perpetual beginning, a rebirth of wonder.”…

Inner journeys always provide a lesson, how one chooses to perceive will determine the outcome. A person cannot predict the end result of an inner journey as they are constantly evolving, a positive conclusion relies on ones capacity to provide themselves an enlightened understanding. The 2011 film The Candidate by David Karlak follows Burton Grunzer a self righteous individual in need of change and Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, a children's story about Max, a young boy learning to control his temper. Both represent the idea of inner journeys as a process and both support the idea that it is self reflection that will determine the outcome of whether or not the journey is positive. All inner journeys will be understood differently,…

Literature Paper Poetry can be very complex and even though it can vary and use different techniques to get the point across it may come to the same conclusion and meaning, and can also be interpreted differently. Poetry is meant to be understood in the reader's own way. Why I Hate Raisins, Hand-Me-Down Halloween, and My Brother at 3AM are about the struggles of living in the reservation, but use different style, syntax and tone. Why I Hate Raisins is a poem about the struggles of not having enough food or not being able to afford food other than what they received. It is written in subtly and sounds simple, so the true meaning behind the poem is not really understood until the end, and has a deeper meaning.…

According to poet Rita Dove, “Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful.” This quote helps us understand why poems come in so many different styles, forms, and subjects. If one thinks of poetry as a whole, perhaps the first poem that surfaces the mind would be a poem in lyrical verse. This more general form of poetry is indeed how the vast majority of poems are written. However, the more classic form of poetry, or perhaps the more ancient form of poetry, is found in epic form, which is known as narrative verse.…
