The sisters started small because they did not expect a dramatic inflow of customers and orders. They originally planned to sell 500 cupcakes on their first day, but ended up selling over a thousand. This unexpected demand rendered their business plan obsolete. However, being flexible and adaptable worked in their favor and they quickly accepted the change and tweaked their business plan. As an entrepreneur you need to be prepared to throw your old business plan (or parts of it) out of the window and make the necessary changes. Sprinkles was established in 2005 and founded by Candace Nelson. It has since expanded to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Georgetown, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Nashville, Newport Beach, New York, and Palo Alto. Katherine replied stating that when they started Georgetown cupcakes it was based more on their dreams and the idea of running a bakery as a family instead of running or competing in a business. The sisters advise to focus on what you are doing and doing it best.
