Chuck Close is an amazing well known artist, that over the years has created many unique and admired pieces. Close was born July 5, 1940 and lived in Monroe Washington with his mother and father. Sadly when Chuck was only 11 years old he lost his father, and not long after his mother became sick with breast cancer. Though Chuck went through hard times he did not let it stop him from doing what he loved. In 1962 he graduated from The University of Washington and later in 1964 he earned his MFA (master of fine arts) from Yale. Close’s artwork started to get recognized in the 1960s his most famous were his photo-realist portraits. Photorealism or also known as super-realism is a type of artwork he worked in, Chuck did this by making large-format polaroids and then recreating them onto large canvases, he called this knitting. In fact the techniques Close used actually help develop the inkjet printer.
Chuck struggled a lot growing up, he suffered from severe dyslexia which is a disorder that causes one to have difficulty reading and writing. He also had Prosopagnosia, this made it hard for him to recognize faces. On top of it all Close was left in bed for almost a

He has left an amazing legacy for the art world. He has taught me so much about how to overcome any obstacle that stands in my way, he had some hard times in his life but he did not let that get in the way of his artwork. Chuck has also helped me in my own artwork, if I’m having a hard time or my art just does not look the way I would like it to, I think about how chuck was feeling like when he was having a hard time as well. That makes me put my hard times in perspective and keep on pushing myself to make my art work turn out to the best of my
