Enemy at the Gate is wonderful movie the battle of Stalingrad, and the story of Vasily Zaytsev. Enemy at the Gate is a 2001 movie directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. The film covers the life of Vasily Zaytsev a Soviet sniper during World War II, and one of the heroes of the Soviet Union during World War II. The movie is actually based on a 1973 book written by William Craig called Enemy at the Gates: The Battle for Stalingrad. The movie depicts the rise of Vasily during the Battle of Stalingrad from a scared man who is not confident in his abilities to a sniper hero. To begin with the movie starts off with a young boy, and his grandpa up in the Russian winter. The boy who we later learn is a young Vasily has one bullet to shoot a wolf who is going to attack their horse. The movie then cuts to the beginning of the battle of Stalingrad. Trains begin to roll troops into the outskirts of the battle who are then sent to boats to be taken to Stalingrad. However before the boats can reach land artillery fire reigns down destroying some of the boats.

Enemy at the Gate could be considered as it documents events that are connected to the war. The very start of the movie shows the troops arriving to the battle, and running into the Nazi forces. The scene is very powerful, and is a great representation of the fighting that would have taken place at Stalingrad. Throughout the movie fighting is shown within the buildings, and periodically through the movie it shows scenes of the troops fighting in the streets. The film could also be considered a biographical film as it focus on the exemplary life of an individual. The movie focus on Vasily who was a real Soviet sniper, and became the hero of Stalingrad. Vasily is shown to go from a nervous individual who was not confident in his abilities. To a sniper capable of taking down the Nazi
