Work itself is gift that should be embraced by all. Civilization, one of the human race's’ greatest achievements would not be possible without work. Most of the population of Earth have at least one major problem in their lives, and work in general of any and all kinds can provide a stable environment, build character, and be a “rock” in someone's life. Many people think of work as something they have to do, but when work is no longer an option they miss it, loose their senses of accomplishment, and lose a lot of meaning in their lives. People from all over the world are judged upon their work, and work also plays a role in a person's status or overall wealth.
Character is the way we define who a person is, and how much value we can place upon their lives. Work builds an immense amount of character from independence, to accountability. There are few opportunities in life where a person can build true permanent character, work is a prime example of one of the few

The phrase means that a person does not understand what a dollar is truly worth to a person who is less fortunate, and has to work very hard for everything they have. On average people start working and being on their own at about 18, the start of their adult lives. Most people will have to work extremely hard for everything the can have and be proud of, not only can work make someone truly appreciate the value of the dollars they earn, but it can also make a person be more careful and responsible with the things they buy with the money they work for. People who have money and all the other luxuries that accompany it handed to them in life, are a lot less appreciative of other people, tangible items, and the world or nature itself.
