The National Junior Honor Society is a very prestigious program that rewards students for their service in their communities, leadership skills, citizenship, and character. Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School highlights these important qualities and I honored to be selected to apply for the society. I believe my morals, love of service, and leadership skills make me a strong candidate to the National Junior Honor Society. Community service is a rewarding activity that, sadly, not many teens and preteens participate in. Not only is the participant regarded in higher esteem, the participant gets to take part in a satisfying experience that helps others in their community. Many people believe that there is nothing they can do to help in their communities, but that is simply not the case. There are opportunities in every community; you just have to dig deeper and look for them. I think the best part about community service is that you get to see your few minutes, hours, or days make a change for the better. In the past years I have participated in a variety of service activities that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Every year around Christmastime our church runs an Operation Christmas Child shoebox packing activity. It is very satisfying at the end of the day to see how many boxes you’ve packed. Merriam-Webster defines citizenship as “the qualities that a person is expected to have as a responsible member of a community”. These are very important in our world; they are the one of the foundations of democracy. Citizenship is comprised of leadership, service, and character. Citizenship is a very extensive word.
