Power Distance: Power distance deals with tolerance people have for an unequal distribution of power. According to Geert Hofstede Centre explains power as a degree to which the less powerful members of a society accept and expect that power is distributed unequally. The main issue is inequalities. The power distance between two countries shows a high contrast with score of Bangladesh 80 and United States of America is measured as 40. The high score indicates strict hierarchy, more dependent to bosses whereas America has more participative leadership.
Individualism. We can see dramatic difference between United State and Bangladesh on Individualism. It explains the degree of interdependence among its member within the society. United state has score 91 is one of the individualist cultural country. On the other hand Bangladesh with score 20 is an example of collectivistic society, commitment to group and loyal. …show more content…
It emphasizes the importance of short-term gains and quick results. They are very practical, presents strong ideas and able to take risk. Those with a high score, on the other hand, have more pragmatic approach. They encourage modern education as a way to prepare for the future and are more relaxing when it comes to punctuality and plan.
Indulgence versus Restraint: It’s an extent in which people try to control their desire and impulses. United state with score 68 has an Indulgence culture with attitudes and behavior of work hard and play hard. On the other hand Bangladesh has a low score of 20, has self control of their desire. They perceive their actions restrained by social norms and feel indulging them is somewhat wrong.
Conclusion:
Hofstede’s six dimensions is a framework of cross-cultural communication which throws light on cultural values in a workplace. United state and Bangladesh are different in terms of culture and values. Similarity was seen in Masculinity score and highly different score in Individualism. Though we found lots of similarity and differences between two countries, they can adopt the positive cultural and move toward the better work
