When doing business in Uruguay the businessmen and women prefer to stand close to each other. They see this as a more personal relationship. This can also be expressed through being direct, staying close to business partners and touching such as shaking of hands, touching the arm or hugging. If someone doing business with individuals of Uruguay and they were to stand back more than a couple feet, it would be considered rude and disrespectful. Power Distance
Power distance theory is based on the fact that in society not all individuals are considered as equals. It describes the level to which members of less power in institutions and organizations of a country assume and accept the unequal distribution of power.
Power Distance – Canada
Canada has a Power Distance score of 39. This means that there is an absence of rank and/or class divisions in institutions and organizations and that Canadians are independent. When it comes to hierarchy in Canadian organizations it is not done to show power structure. This hierarchy is done for convenience rather than for power and everyone works in a combined effort. All levels of the hierarchy rely on the lower levels in order to run institutions and organizations efficiently. For example, superiors rely on managers and the managers rely on individual employees and teams for knowledge and hard work.
