“Unite Here is dated back to the late 1800s. Unite Here has and works with lots of different unions over the years.
The first group of workers that Unite Here began to represent was International hotel employees and restaurant employees in the 1900s. Then they went on to the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU) , Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, The Culinary Workers Union, and a lot of other unions over the years” (History). The latest news on Unite Here was published as an online article called “Is Philadelphia the Next Chicago” by Andrew Elrod. This article talks about four members of Unite Here that represent the School District of Philadelphia started a hunger strike in order to raise attention to the $300 million deficit by laying off 3,700 staff and deprive the teachers’ union contract.Then the article mentions that half of Unite Here Local 634’s members and the entire district's safety staff were not going to return in the fall of 2014 (Elrod …show more content…
Another article that spoke on Unite Here was an article named “The Hospitality Industry’s Two-Tier Workforce” by Michelle Chen. In this article Chen wrote about a hotel that had two groups of housekeepers that all do the same job but one group was receiving a different pay.
