UNI Career Fair Job Analysis

Prior to the UNI Career Fair, I did some research on the University website to try to figure out which booths I was interested in visiting. The Lutheran Services in Iowa booth wasn’t one that was particularly on my list. This company is a non-profit organization that helps people who are struggling to parent children with behavioral or mental health issues. I wasn’t exactly sure what Lutheran Services In Iowa was all about until I walked past their station, and saw words on a poster saying “help children” and “family focus”. That really drew me to their booth because I am a social work/family services major, so I am very interested in helping children and families throughout their personal struggles. Challenges?” I was extremely interested in what personally satisfies Dashia while she works in this field because I wanted to know if it was the same reason as to why I am interested in this field as well. The main reason I want to work in this field is to be able to change the lives of children and to make a permanent impact on them. I think that if you can change just one person’s outlook on life in your own lifetime then you’ve done your job in this world. Dashia had views that were very similar to mine. Her greatest satisfaction in this job is making a difference in kids lives. She loves when kids that she has helped call her years later, and thank her for all that she’s done. There is a certain satisfaction that just comes with a career like this. If you are really able to help a troubled child, and they are able to realize all that you’ve done for them, and even if they’re not, you still can have that self satisfaction that you have changed a life. The greatest challenges Dashia has discovered while having this job is having to deal with potential “lost causes”. It’s sad to call them that, but there are some kids that just don’t want to be helped, and if you don’t want to help yourself then you can’t expect someone else to be able to help you either. Dashia mentioned that it’s the hardest thing putting your all into a person who won’t accept your …show more content…

Dashia was an extremely nice person who shared a lot of details about the Lutheran Services in Iowa. She answered all of my questions with very specific details, and I was super appreciative of that. I am interested in pursuing this company in the future. I think it could be a good fit for what I want to do with the rest of my life. The visit helped me with my future because it gave me reassurance that this is what I wanted to do. Just talking to Dashia about her experiences and what it takes to be apart of this program made it clear that I am very interested in my current career
