Stage one is encoded, how the information is set out to be able to recall later on. The processing of information is usually done either by auditory stimuli or visual is so that it becomes part of the memory (encode information). This stage is highly important since it set in the encoded information that turns into the memory. The second is saving the encoded so the information can be recalled later on. The encoding will either be put in the short term or long term memory.The last stage of three-way memory is the retrieval of the information. We have accessed the memory of encoding to be able to remember the stored information. Observational learning is, obtaining facts or information from other people by observing. An example would be, by observing the chef cook steak to learn to cook a steak. Cognitive schema helps one have a clear understanding of information and organizes it, but sometimes it won’t let us remember new information because there's no more space in one's cognitive structure. An example, one may have developed a schema that all rich people have the best life. Since this schema is in place when one is this type of person one only puts close attention that supports one’s schema not one thing that contradicts it.
