I would be able to give my students feedback in a more beneficial way than simply circling a grade on a rubric, because the suggestions and praises in my recording would be authentic and real time. There is not only audio, but video as well. My students would be able to see exactly what I see on my screen while I am going over their assignment and grading it. This gives them the opportunity to see what different areas of the assignment that I point out in order for them to see their mistakes and correct them in the future. The affordances continue with the idea that this kind of grading and feedback can take place anywhere at anytime. I can grade digital assignments after school hours, yet my students will be able to see and hear my corrections as soon as I have shared the video with them. This gives the teacher more time in the school day to focus on instruction and practice, rather than conferencing with students. This tool is an example of multimodality, because it is using audio and visual representation in order to record a short video that could be used by the teacher to provide feedback to students in the classroom. It is a website that we discussed and experimented with in lecture this semester. It can be used in the literacy classroom to create concept maps of all kinds. This website tool is multimodal because it incorporates text, video, images, and even linked websites all in one place. It has a simple format that can be easily adapted across multiple grade levels. This tool would be great for students to be able to create a character chart based on a class literature book. Students could find or create images to depict the characters and their personal traits and characteristics. Each initial branch could represent a different character. Branching off of that character branch there could be several possibilities that may include: physical characteristics, character traits, interests and hobbies, relationships to other characters, and any significant plot development that the students want to include in relationship with that specific
