Reflective Essay On Leadership Styles

Leadership is the capacity to translate vision possessed by an individual into reality. Leaders are those who empowers other, give other people the chance they want, give them multiple opportunities to reveal their potential. This definition of mine includes ‘others’ and empowerment is a good thing, as it has a positive connotation. Leadership has nothing to do with one’s position in a hierarchy or with seniority; leadership is the ability which can be seen in a regular student of college or university. It has nothing to do with the titles; you can be a leader in your place of worship, in your family, in your neighborhood, all without having any title. A great leader is one who is self-aware, who understands the importance of communicating with community members or with their fellow mates and works towards building community which can be a collaborative in nature, is open to new ways for leading, leads by example and also believes in setting new examples …show more content…
The leadership style which I learnt when I was exposed to various perspective on leaders and the impact on the organization throughout my learning period are as follow:
1. Authoritative:
This is best suited when changes require a new vision or when a clear direction is needed for the followers. Leaders who practice authoritative style organize people towards a vision. Here the leader works as a change agent that is self-confident and empathetic. The authoritative leader usually fills up the team with confidence and drives them towards the goals that need to be achieved in long run. The “come with me” style can be noticed because it takes everyone together for achieving a purpose. It is the strongest leading style where the leader leads the team towards one direction.
