According to the Non GMO Project, GMOs, or Genetically Modified Organisms, are "living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering.” This generally new science makes insecure blends of plant, animal, bacterial and viral qualities that don't happen in nature or through typical cross-mating systems. Evidence continually draws a connection between GMOs and health issues, ecological threat, and infringement of farmers' and customers' rights.
The biggest debate is whether or not it is safe to genetically alter the natural state of the food we consume. Most countries refuse to believe that this act is safe. In fact, there are a growing number of restrictions or outright bans on the production and sale of GMO’s throughout the world. Many individuals in the US are taking matters into their own hands by educating themselves and staying away from the GMO experiment.

Since labeling is not obligatory, the Non-GMO Project was made to give purchasers the educated choice they truly deserve. In order to avoid the consumption of GMOs, individuals must research the foods they eat and choose food products that are Non-GMO Project Verified. As indicated by a recent CBS/New York Times poll, "53% of consumers said they would not buy food that has been genetically modified." The Non-GMO Project's seal for confirmed items will, surprisingly, give the general population a chance to settle on an educated decision with regards to
