To start, Billy is an eager character, and wants to start his new job as soon as possible. He’s excited and ready, plus he doesn’t want anything to get in his way. “He was trying to everything briskly these days… the big shots up at Head Office were absolutely fantastically brisk all the time” (Dahl 1). Billy is so excited he tries to imitate the big shots by being more brisk. “ ‘I think I’ll just go to bed as soon as possible because tomorrow I’ve got to get up rather early and report to the office’ ” (3). Billy is completely focused on his new job and is determined to get there.
