Beginning from birth, the human brain is constantly developing, but some developments are more dramatic than others. One of the most critical transformations in the brain occur right at the onset of puberty, which can be around the time adolescents begin middle school, and even high school in some cases (Nixon). During this period, education is extremely vital because what students are being taught is what is going to mold their brains and enhance their intelligence (Blakemore). It has been proven that stimulating exercises and activities will strengthen and expand mental aptitudes (Hurley). This is exactly what students need. Education tactics that will build exceptional internal control, multi-tasking, planning, and social cognitive skills are key and should be the focus when attempting to develop high level thinkers, performers, and ultimately, leaders (Blakemore).
