Development can only happen if the government stands behind their citizens, whether that be a democratic government or not, is the argument explored for this paper. I say this with confidence as all of the countries that I have observed, it seems to be the case that a strong government can hold a nation together. It is a general trend that a proper and strong development of any country happens when a government shifts to a more democratic regime.You take any of the East Asian coutnries and you will see that this is the general case, as for these countries to become more economiclly strong, they adopted more democratic policies. This can be a factor of the change in regime type. As it was in the early 90’s that the Azerbaijan people gained independence from the crippling Soviet Union.It took a few years for the people to get the ball rolling. The policies that they agreed to and the elections they held, help them reach the status of where they are today. They are one of the few countries under former Soviet Union that has seen progress. The World Bank has a graph of time versus GDP per capita,(link provided below) there students and scientists alike can see that GDP per capita has risen about 8 fold(times ).(World Bank). Is it to say that life only matters when money is involved, absolutely not, but it certainly helps it citizens afford better housing, better healthcare, better education( college) and so on.Which the term can tell us ‘direct measure of productivity and indirectly with living standards.’(Viswanthan,”What is the Meaning of GDP’) With money of the people, they can invest in their economies, save money for retirement and help the country gain wealth.So in recent decades, it has become a major tool to scientist to measure.My argument is that for the right development it may be common to have a democratic process as not only does the economy grow but the people can experience a better life.
So it was only after the fall of the Soviet Union did the Azeris have a chance to expand their economy and gain a better life. However it would be irresponsible not to mention the current events in Azerbaijan today and discuss how they can affect all the progress we have seen. The President Aliyev of Azerbaijan has been accused by humanitarian groups of turning the government into an authoritarian one. In 2009, the politicians in power voted and passed a bill, which allowed the government to
