Since its inception in 1791, the second amendment has been one of the most contested freedoms in the Bill of Rights. The way that the Founding Fathers have worded this amendment has left it open to varying interpretations. In the current state of American Democracy where many of its citizens mistrust the government, this amendment undergoes a perpetual motion through the scales of individual freedom versus public safety. The contents of the research will consist of a history and overview of the policy area, a literature review composed of a pro and con argument and a personal research method for future research.
