Team Building Strategies

There are several strategies to team building. Many believe that what one coach believes is a great strategy, that it will work for another coach or team. This may not be true as what one will use may not work for another coach. In this essay I will describe the four general strategies of team-building interventions providing examples of each. Going on to describe the potential benefits of team-building interventions highlighting how team building can improve team effectiveness and success. Finally going on to describe the five stages of Tuckman and Jensen’s model of group development. explaining how these strategies can be used with my fieldwork. Taking a team and locking them in a school and doing different skills with them. Taking a football team and camping outside with them and having a tug of war competition. It builds character, strength and trust in each player. They also learn to work as a team in a different setting. Taking a gymnastic team and having a lock in at the gym. Watch movies and work on certain skills, all a form of team building.
Hoping that the potential benefits of team building are that the team will know how to work together as one (a team) and not individually and are to improve productivity and motivation. Team members discover that diversity is their greatest asset and trust, cooperation and effective communication are the key to a team’s success (Directory, 2017). They are, forming - where a team and coach meet, form and agree on goals. As a team, they choose and form a set of goals that can be attained easily or a goal or goals that will be focused on. Storming: In this stage "...participants form opinions about the character and integrity of the other participants and feel compelled to voice these opinions if they find someone shirking responsibility or attempting to dominate (Wikimedia Foundation, 2017).Norming: by getting feedback and preparing to engage with the team. The coaches would be gathering information and engaging with the team to provide feedback. Working with the team to improve on goals. Outperforming: allowing for flexibility. A team can have a set of goals but can allow flexibility in them by dropping some or adding to one. Finally adjourning, creating future leadership opportunities.
