Personal Ethical Issues

Ethical Issues We learn this at a very young age. Remember the phrase “Treat others the way you want to be treated”(Pecson)? That is what we call ethics. Ethics basically means knowing what is right from wrong. We deal with ethical issues in an everyday basis. It is everywhere we go, whether with family, at work, school, in a park, and so on. Ethics is a huge part in our life, making us think about common sense or just deciding overall. Without ethical values, we would end up living in purged life. Doing what we think is right in a specific situation does not make us impeccable. We go through a lot of ethical issues because, as I have stated, knowing what is right from wrong is a vague understanding. We all have different perspectives, thus giving it a definition depending on who or what they base it on. Many people base their judgement through their feelings and religious beliefs. Some believe that being ethical is the same thing as following the law, however, that is not always the case. Some of the ethical issues that we go through today has a lot to do with social society acceptance or being pressured. For example, being pressure to accomplish something even though it is amiss or vice versa. Therefore, it is reasonable because everyone wants to be accepted or credited in some way. Back to the pre-Civil War, slavery laws and the segregation of ethnicity or color persay, is also a way of wanting to be approved by society. It may have seemed like no one wanted to deal with a colored human being at that time, but there must have been a few people that disagree with segregation and ethnic discrimination. They disagree with the situation and left with no option but to overlook the situation due to the inferiority and collecting severe punishments. Society has evolved and so has ourselves. Our perspective has changed over time, but because of what society has instilled in our minds, our values and morals are most valuable to us. Although in some situations, we are compelled to do what others approve of in order to be acknowledged. Being ethical has a lot to do with culture and religion. In some cultures, the head family member which most likely the father, will always have and always will be precise no matter what the circumstances are. In other cultures, some families rank themselves depending on hierarchy. In my case, My background goes through the Asian culture, especially my mother. Most Asian cultures care deeply about their kids’ grade point average in school but does not necessarily follow the actual grading. It is important for them that their children receive outstanding grades in school. Receiving a grade “B” or below will be considered as failing. Those who are devoted to a religious belief also has a big impact in our ethical issues. It does not matter if people do not have the same beliefs as others, because their faith will always be loyal to their deity. Some people even highly believe that being a part of a religion is the same as being ethical, but in reality being ethical has nothing to do with being religious. In contrary atheists do not believe in religion but they can be ethical as much as a person who believes in a deity or
