In the 70’s dating was considered as “going out” with someone that you thought was cute. A typical date was going to the movies or going out to dinner and the guy would pick up the girl at the door with flowers, at school the guy would walk to girl to class (Pruitt). The daughters dad would always be skeptical of the guy because it’s the moment of letting go. Today dads still have the mindset and outlook that “all guys are bad” but dating is much different. Social media has taken over the whole idea of dating because it's easier to communicate however it creates problems with relationships because it's easy for lying and cheating. In the 70’s you physically had to pick up the phone and call the other person if you wanted to talk or talk in person. Today you can pick up your cell phone and send a quick text or snapchat. Ultimately this takes away the whole idea of communication and having meaningful face to face conversations. In the 70’s “certain social expectations changed also.
