Numerous authors posit that running into a client
The author, Wendy Wood, wrote “The Heart, Mind, and Soul of Professionalism in Occupational Therapy” to help Occupational Therapist Practitioners to balance heart mind, and soul into the profession. From her own experiences, she has learned that if these three key elements are not included in practicing in Occupational Therapy it will not give the clients the desired outcomes. The intended audience for this article are Occupational Therapist Practitioners. Main Points…
When you thought you have reached your limit the inevitable happens. Observing Mr. Phil Hansen in Ted Talk, no one can see that he has any defects or flaws with hindsight. Then he speaks of his problems that he is having and the dysfunction that is keeping him from his dreams. He has handshaking syndrome that developed from holding a pencil too tightly to make tiny dots, in his spiel he claims that over time of holding and squeezing his fingers to create small dots for his creations caused muscle damage . After staying away from art for three years he decided to see a neurologist and in turn the doctor told him to “embrace the shake”.…
Psychotherapist Burnout Burnout is a work-related stress that results from job demands. For psychotherapists, burnout can be of particular concern because of the emotional nature of the relationship between caregivers and their clients. This is especially true as therapy is uniquely characterized by common factors (empathy, alliance, etc.,) which can be emotionally demanding and grueling work. Burnout is defined as a “syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of personal accomplishment” (Lee, Lim, Yang and Lee, 2011). Therefore, it is imperative that a clinician avoid burnout as the effects may influence the quality of the service they provide to their clients (Lee, et al., 2011).…
Conceptualization Concept #1: Family Schema Sergio reported that he has problems with his anger and he tends to blow up easily just like his father. What I see is that Sergio thinks that being angry and blowing up is what it seems to work with everyone. Sergio saw his father the same way by arguing and getting angry to the point that it caused him to have a heart attack; it is a family belief that someone should always be extremely angry to be able to deal with people. Sergio’s father moved that trait over to his son as a template to follow in his life. I imagine that this family tends to get angry at each other and always fight because they don’t have another alternative to deal with a problem.…
Constantly evolving, constantly transforming. A place where any outsider has to prove themselves before being welcomed with open arms, where fame or riches is not the predominant factor instead communication is the main concern. Art is such a dexterous community, with countless of people from different backgrounds, ideals or beliefs, as a result, it doesn’t belong to only one culture alone and it becomes a form of communication that can reach multiple people regardless of the language boundary that has separated men throughout time and time again. In a sense, I am Alice in the Art world, as a discourse community art has established a part of what I am today by influencing me in my early years, transitioning my life, integrating me into a whole…
I grew up with a paintbrush in one hand and a pencil in the other, and I own more art supplies than A.C.Moore. In high school, I have chosen studio art as my elective every year, and I have had four projects selected for Spring-Ford’s annual art show. In one of my favorite pieces, I incorporated music by drawing hands playing a piano in white charcoal on black paper. Then after attending several mission trips throughout high school, I discovered another passion of mine. I realized I like helping others.…
Section I: Reflecting on Assessing Prior Knowledge and Planning Instruction In order for students to be successful in this lesson, students must have had previous practice with basic addition and subtraction. Prior knowledge and experience with addition and subtraction equations, will be quickly reviewed at the beginning of the lesson, before getting started with the word problems. This information gathered from the review, will be used to assist students in understanding that we are still using addition and subtraction within the word problems. This information may also be used to help the teacher understand where each child is at within their skills, to give extra support as needed.…
Do you know what you will be doing five years down the road? For me, it is hard to imagine myself as a therapist though I do share an interest in helping people. The reality is, you can plan for many things but you never can fully predict where life will take you. As a therapist I can identify some potential strengths and weaknesses that I bring to the field.…
The pressure that my brother and I had over the years in trying to keep my father’s dream of being successful alive was hard to deal with. It took patience and discipline to keep up with that expectation as we grew up. To be able to move on I had to endure the pressure and look at my real motivations for becoming a therapist. I had to pay attention to my feelings of wanting to prove myself. This is a tendency that while it has helped me in the past with the challenges that I have faced, it could hinder the work I do in counseling.…
I believe that I am a well-qualified candidate for a position within the field of occupational therapy predicated upon several interests in my life that have held imperative value: a strong awareness of how the body and mind tie together to comprise the human experience, a desire to utilize patient-centered care while promoting independence for individuals across the lifespan, and a drive to engage in scientific inquiry through research. What initially influenced my decision to pursue a career in occupational therapy was the notion that treatment within this profession is holistic; essentially, it encompasses the mind and body whilst so many other health professions fail to do so. Occupational therapy practitioners ensure adequate therapeutic outcomes for their patients by naturally and artistically integrating all aspects of the human experience. Consequentially, the importance of this holistic approach struck me the most while studying human anatomy within a cadaver laboratory. This was a course in which I was engrossed in…
Art Material and its Therapeutic effects Clay is a versatile art material. In this paper, “Clay-work” is defined as the overall process and outcome of the process, from handling, manipulating, and modeling clay to the final artwork. Several types of clay are commonly used in art therapy. (1) Clay is natural art material, which consists of organic content. It is reusable even when dry.…
Art therapy is essentially the marriage of two disciplines. The blissful combination of art and psychology make for a delightful field of study. Aspects of visual arts, the creative process, human development, behavior, personality, and mental health, among others, are important to the definitions and scope of art therapy. I myself am an artist. To bring this to a more personal note, I am going to take you back down when I was a tiny tot, and just beginning to read and write.…
While managing to present the client with certain challenges that allow them to see the action that needs to be taken, and what can they do in order to bring about change. It is also very necessary to help the clients pinpoint their own personal strengths, understand what’s hindering them from using available resources, and to have them specifically state what they want they want in life and how they want to live it. Professional boundaries/roles on the therapist behalf is to be explicitly stated before the therapy is in session. Maybe also a little clarification of the rules of therapy and what therapy is exactly since individuals tend to have misconstrued information about therapy in general. Some important characteristics that a good counselor should have is the willingness to listen, to provide encouragement, to be empathetic, to be nonjudgmental, to have patience, and to most of all uphold the promise to keep things confidential unless that client is at risk for harming themselves as well as others.…
This approach is interesting because it addresses the resiliency of the client and the client can build upon a strength-based foundation to work towards solutions (George, 2008). I feel that this approach can be applied in many different situations to build on the strengths and past successes than to correct the past failures or mistakes. Secondly, in this approach the therapist understands, accepts, and uses the client’s unique worldviews during the process of identifying and amplifying exceptions (George, 2008). Lastly, this approach uses the imagination of client to visualize the future through questioning that can allow for a clear picture of what the solution may look like even when the problem may not be clearly defined. I find one of my strengths through the use of the peer evaluation form shows that I have good techniques to ask the right questions to gain a better understanding of the problem the client is presenting.…
1. Discuss the accuracy of this statement: Formal strategic planning systems are irrelevant for firms competing in high-technology industries where the pace of change is so rapid that plans are routinely made obsolete by unforeseen events.
