It is so important that teachers are culturally responsive practitioners. They need to make sure that every child is able to learn and perform to the best of their capability. Every child is different from one another. They may be from a different culture or speak different languages. Children may learn in different ways, may have special needs, or may be gifted. Children also have different interests or skills. All teachers need to provide a safe, respectful, and creative classroom and be prepared to guide the variety of children that make up the classroom.

According to Carol Tomilson, “differentiated instruction is factoring students’ individual learning styles and levels of readiness first before designing a lesson plan. Research on the effectiveness of differentiation shows this method benefits a wide range of students, from those with learning disabilities to those who are considered high ability” (What is Differentiated Instruction). A teacher would be considered using differentiated instruction if she was teaching a unit on weather and used different teaching methods to get the class to understand and comprehend the topic. In Prekindergarten we would set up different learning centers or small groups based on the learning styles of the students. The students rotated through the small group areas throughout the week. This type of grouping helped to work with the different learning abilities of the …show more content…
I want to know what type of learners the students may be. As I begin any unit, I will need to find out what the students know about the topic. We could do different graphic organizers or KWL charts. I will plan to present the content by using technology, books, hands on activities, singing, drawing, creating, small group and whole group lessons, field trips, and use of manipulatives. I could use and demonstrate different methods of breaking things down and finding answers in different ways. My students will get positive feedback from me promptly and I will help them try to find a solution to any problems they are having as they learn about an assigned topic. Lastly, I will check for student comprehension and understanding by using many forms of continuous
