John Jay Assault on Referee The news story of two football players tackling a referee during a game has gone viral. At John Jay High School in San Antonio, Texas, two of the football players have been suspended for tackling a referee during a game against Marble Falls. Punishment for the boys is up in the air still as that assistant coach, Mack Breed, has admitted to telling the players to hit the referee. He stated “This guy needs to pay for cheating us” to a few of the players moments before the incident occurred (Villafranca). Speculations have been made as to what the two players should have done when Breed gave the orders. Should the boys be tried as adults? Do they deserve a more harsh punishment? Immediately after the game, a paid leave of absence was set in place for assistant coach Mack Breed. With the players both being minors, it is questionable on whether or not they should be tried as adults for the assault.
