In this article, it discusses Betsy Devos and her stance on LGBQT students in private schools. As secretary of education, she is supposed to make stances and affirm decisions about the safety or budget of schools. Her agency recently stated that they would not give funds to schools that defy federal education laws, but many questions about the protection of the LGBQT. Devos simply refused to answer the question as she would just state what she had said before. Many people of the Democratic party argued and questioned her even more to the point where her stance was obviously revealed to where she said states would deal with situations like this.
I personally think that this is an issue with the federal discrimination laws as they have not been updated to society values of today, but I think it is necessary for Devos to acknowledge this and have a stronger position on it since discrimination is a problem. This article describes how populist part of an organization called Our Revolution is helping integrate progressive reforms and policies into today’s society. The main reason for the rising in the populist movement is that many voters are tired of congress being funded by groups such as billionaires and bankers, they want to see real change in the world. Many states have contributed to the populist movement such as NY considering Medicare for all, and their recent Excelsior scholarship providing free college for everyone, or in Philadelphia where Our revolution took on the party establishment to hold District Attorneys responsible for their role in perpetuating the broken criminal system.
