Training and Development Attracting and retaining top talent in the Knowledge Age is critical to the success of organizations. As Baby Boomers near retirement, organizations must consider the needs of employees in order to attract and retain the top talent. To that end, strategic training and development plays a large role in that goal. Prior to implementing a training and development program in an organization, it is important to understand the career aspirations of its employees. Strategic training and development may include in-house trainings, company paid attendance at training seminars, or continuing collegiate education subsidized by tuition reimbursement from the organization. One way to increase an employee retention is through the comprehensiveness of a training program. Ehrhardt, K., Miller, J. S., Freeman, S. J., & Hom, P. W. (2011) found that a comprehensive training program increases employee commitment to an organization. The Personal Growth strategy would involve training activities that would lead to an employee’s personal growth such as wellness, interpersonal communications, and technology skills.
