Small Group Ministry Summary

The Seven Deadly sins of Small Group Ministry is a must read for anyone planning on leading a small group. The book covers many challenges a small group leader will face and must think through before starting a group. Each chapter has a particular sin a how to combat it. Also, point out strengths and weakness of the book. In addition to analyzing this book, I will discuss how this book can be used for more than small group ministry. Each chapter deals with a certain situation or issue in which small groups leaders can encounter. After outlying the issue the author lays out a constructive way for the small group leader to avoid this. This could also be used to help people plug into the right group. When you open up a church website and see fifty different small groups it can be overwhelming put them into category’s will help everyone. The church can set up as follows new believers groups obviously these groups will help new members and new believers become integrated into the church and faith. Then the church can have class split into different age and topics. Each group needs to have a clear objective they want to achieve. In addition to unclear objectives is a lack of specific overall leadership. This one can be a bit of a problem for small churches. However, I feel it’s the role of leadership in the church to recruit the best leaders for each group. It’s the responsibility of the church to make sure each group is fulfilling a need of its members. In addition to poor leadership and unclear objectives the third issues is poor coaching the church needs to coach up leaders and be supportive of them. Also being minded full of the personal life these leaders have outside the church. It may not be the best choice to have a mom of 5
